# Which sample when

An overview by season. The best moments differ per farm and per year, but this is a good starting point.


## All year round

### Winter (december to february)

- **Soil testing**: For the fertilisation plan, when the ground is not frozen or too wet.
- **Manure sample**: Know what is in the pit before the spreading season begins.
- **Water from your own source**: A good time for the annual check.

### Spring (march to may)

- **Nitrogen (Nmin)**: How much nitrogen is already in the soil, before the first fertiliser application.
- **Soil testing**: On fields that have not yet been fertilised.

### Summer (june to august)

- **Silage sample**: From the first cuts, once the silage has fully fermented.
- **Drinking water**: In warm weather, pay extra attention to the drinking water.

### Autumn (september to november)

- **Nitrogen after harvest**: How much nitrogen has been left behind for the winter.
- **Soil testing**: After harvest, so that the result is ready for the new season.
- **Maize silage sample**: Once the maize silage has fully fermented.
